There are trout waters – and then there are waters that have been quietly looked after for generations.
The Long Meadow estate has its roots in the private Anglo American trout farms of the late 1960s. For decades, these waters saw remarkably little fishing, allowing the combination of pristine water, abundant natural food and extraordinarily low rod pressure to create something increasingly difficult to find: genuinely exceptional fly fishing.
Today, that legacy is carefully preserved.
Across Trout Valley and Long Meadow, anglers have access to secluded stillwaters and stretches of the Crocodile River, home to magnificent rainbow and brown trout and managed with one purpose – to keep the fishing extraordinary for years to come.

Trout Valley
Trout Valley is home to three private stillwaters, each offering a different fishing experience.
At its heart is Trout Valley Upper, an impressive stillwater fed by the pristine wetland above it. Exceptional water quality, varying depths, productive shallows and a rich natural food chain provide ideal conditions for trout to thrive.
Islands, natural banks, casting jetties and carefully positioned access points allow anglers to work the water from a variety of angles.
Nearby, Duck Pond and Trout Valley Lower add another dimension to the fishing, with each water carefully managed as part of the broader estate fishery.
Davy’s
Set against rolling wetlands with its large stillwater stretching out in front, Davy’s forms an important part of the Long Meadow fishing story.
The fishery has become something of a passion project – continually studied, refined and carefully managed to create the conditions in which exceptional trout can flourish.
Guided Fishing
Fly-fishing guests have the benefit of an experienced Mavungana fly-fishing guide during fishing sessions.
Whether you’re an experienced angler or picking up a fly rod for the first time, your guide can assist with technique, fly selection and an understanding of how the fish are behaving at that particular time of year.
High-end imported fly-fishing tackle is also available for guest use.

Catch and Release
Fishing throughout the Long Meadow estate is strictly catch-and-release.
Every trout is returned safely to the water so that these remarkable fish can continue to grow and contribute to the quality of the fishery.
Anglers are required to use barbless hooks and fish-friendly landing nets, wet their hands before handling trout and keep fish in the water wherever possible. Handling and photography should always be kept to an absolute minimum.
Handle them carefully. Return them promptly. Protect what makes these waters special.
